Ketchikan responds to Web site KPU forum shutdown

KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) _ The city of Ketchikan has responded to the shutting down of a Web site discussion forum.

City manager Karl Amylon, and others, says the Web site owners disabled the forum voluntarily after Van Abbott _ KPU Telecommunications division manager _ expressed concern about the potentially libelous material of some of the comments.

The Web site, www.friendsofkpu.com, was created after the city announced it was looking into possibly selling the telecommunications division.

Billy Copper _ who is not employed by KPU or the city _ says he created the site to inform the community about the potential sale.

KPU employees have repeatedly urged the Council not to sell.
