Anchorage citywide cleanup begins Saturday

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) _ Hundreds of residents will be pitching in to pick up the trash and make Anchorage presentable for summer visitors.

The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is kicking off its annual citywide cleanup on Saturday.

The cleanup begins with free residential dump days, which begin this weekend for residents of the municipality.

Teams of cleanup crews also will be heading out to tackle certain parts of the city. For example, employees of the Providence Imaging Center will be cleaning up the University of Alaska Anchorage area.

Organizers say a celebration will be held on the Delaney Park Strip on Saturday afternoon. There will be live entertainment, ice cream and plenty of trash-related activities, including a recycled cell phone toss.
