BLM approves NPR-A unit

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) _ The Bureau of Land Management has approved its first federal oil and gas unit within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

The Greater Mooses Tooth unit includes 34 federal leases totaling more than 147,400 acres.

Unit operator ConocoPhillips Alaska and co-lessee Anadarko Petroleum proposed forming the unit.

The companies wanted the unit formed to help move along the process of exploring and developing the lands for oil and gas resources.
